Dhaka: Speakers at a dialogue have laid emphasis on the necessity of a strong Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) regime, saying it is crucial for Bangladesh to attract foreign investment and boost economic growth. They said it could turn Bangladesh into an attractive destination for foreign direct investment and sustainable economic integration.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) organized the dialogue styled “Strengthening IPR Frameworks: Challenges and Way Forward” at a city hotel on Tuesday, said a press release today. Shilpi Jha, Senior Commercial Specialist and IP Policy Advisor-South Asia at USPTO and Founder of Bangladesh IP Forum Barrister Hamidul Misbah joined the dialogue with AmCham President Syed Ershad Ahmed in the chair. AmCham members, representatives of different trade bodies, businessmen, and experts also participated in the discussion.

ing them control over how their creations are used. This protection is seen as essential for fostering innovation and ensuring that creators can benefit economically from their inventions and works. The dialogue aimed to address the challenges faced in strengthening the IPR framework in Bangladesh and to explore ways forward to enhance the country’s competitiveness in the global market.
