Dhaka: National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Dr. Ali Riaz today expressed hope that the representatives of political parties, who will be elected by the people in the upcoming parliamentary elections, will play a pioneering role in shaping the future journey of a democratic Bangladesh.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Ali Riaz emphasized the crucial role of elected political representatives at a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy. He stated that the political parties of Bangladesh, along with those elected by public votes, will embark on a journey towards a democratic Bangladesh, fulfilling their responsibilities and leading the country towards a new path.
The event was attended by Commission members Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, and Dr. Md. Ayub Mia. Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Haider were also present.
Professor Riaz revealed that the commission had made two proposals and options, which were presented to the government with a request for swift implementation. He highlighted the signing of the ‘July National Charter, 2025’ on October 17, where political parties committed to its implementation. The commission provided recommendations to the government on executing the charter’s provisions.
The recommendations, as Professor Riaz explained, comprise three main parts. The first suggests immediate implementation through ordinances for issues unrelated to constitutional matters. The second part focuses on recommendations executable through government directives or office orders, with consensus already achieved among political parties.
In addressing constitutional matters, Professor Riaz noted that while consensus exists on several issues, differences remain on others. The commission’s third set of recommendations aims to provide a legal framework for implementing these matters and guiding the process forward.
The commission presented the recommendations for the ‘July National Charter, 2025’ implementation to Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna earlier today.
