Chattogram: Speakers at a training workshop on dairy products and their marketing laid emphasis on increasing the intake of dairy milk products to address nutrition deficiency among people of all ages. They also called upon the concerned authority to minimize costs of the dairy products and their varieties so that it becomes affordable to the low-income consumers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this call was made at the inaugural function of a 10-day training workshop on 'Dairy Milk Products and Marketing' jointly organized by the Poultry Research and Train Center (PRTC) and the Dairy and Poultry Science Department of Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Science University (CVASU), in cooperation with the Directorate of Cooperatives. The event was held at the PRTC conference room, with Director Prof. Dr. A K M Humayun Kabir presiding. CVASU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md Lutfar Rahman and Joint Registrar of LGRD and Cooperative Ministry Tofayel Ahmed attended as the chief guest and special guest respectively.
CVASU VC Prof. Lutfar Rahman highlighted that such skill development programs in the sector could play a crucial role in achieving self-sufficiency in milk and dairy-milk production in the country. He also pointed out the potential for elevating the overall economic condition of marginal farmers through these initiatives.
The special guest emphasized the need for farming and rearing more highly-improved breed cows to meet the demand for milk and dairy products. He also noted the opportunities for employment generation and increased participation of women in the sector, which could help attain economic self-sufficiency.
The training workshop is being attended by twenty-five dairy farmers, including several women entrepreneurs from Hathazari and Mirsharai upazilas.
