Dateline: Dhaka: A court here today placed former company commander of RAB-2 SP Mohiuddin Farooqui on two-day remand in the case lodged over the murder of Zobayer Omar Khan in the capital’s Jatrabari area during the student-led mass uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Superintendent of Police (SP) Farooqui, who was working as deputy commandant at Betbunia Police Specialized Training Centre lastly, was produced before the court as police pleaded to place him on seven-day remand in the case. His counsel, however, argued for his bail.
After hearing both sides, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman placed the SP on two-day remand.
Zobayer Omar Khan, on information of Hasina’s escape to India, tried to join a liberation rally in Shahbagh on the noon of August 5. As he, along with many others, reached Shanir Akhra area, police pounced on them, firing live bullets, tear shells, sound grenades, and others. Many people, including Zobayer, got injured in the attack.

Zobayer’s brother, Zabed Imran Khan, filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station on August 22 against 127, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
