Dhaka: A court here today granted two days police remand to BUET student Sabekunnahar Sony murder convict Mushfiq Uddin Tagor to interrogate him in connection with an arms case with Lalbagh Thana. A team of Lalbagh police led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Motiar Rahman Bulbul produced Tagor before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) and prayed for granting him five days remand. Metropolitan Magistrate G M Farhad Ishtiaq, on behalf of the CMM, granted him two days remand after hearing the statement of the prosecution.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a team of RAB arrested Tagor from Azimpur area on Thursday and seized a .32 bore revolver, a magazine, 155 rounds of .22 bore rifle bullets, a missed fire bullet of 7.6 millimeter gun, a blank cartridge of short gun, two face masks and two mobile sets from his possession. Company Commander of RAB Lalbagh zone Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Md Khalequzzaman on Friday filed a case against Tagor with Lalbagh Thana under the Arms Act.
Sabekunnahar Sony, a student of the Chemical Engineering Department of the 1999 batch of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was killed in a gunfight between two factions of a student organization on June 8, 2002. One group was led by Mokammel Hayat Khan and the other group was led by Mushfiq Uddin Tagor. Tagor was convicted for the killing and released from the jail on August 20, 2020, after completing his imprisonment.
