Satkhira:A 250-kilowatt solar power system is being installed at the Ocean Hatchery, a facility for producing Bagda shrimp fry in Shyamnagar, Satkhira. The project aims to generate 60,000 to 70,000 units of electricity monthly.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the project, a joint effort by Saima Power Engineering and Genixgreen Bangladesh, is expected to contribute 40,000 to 50,000 units of surplus electricity to the national grid. A delegation of project officials recently inspected the installation site.

Saima Power Engineering Director (Operations) Saima Sajedul Karim stated that this is the first time such technology is being used at a Bagda shrimp hatchery in Bangladesh. The solar panels are designed to be movable, allowing them to be folded away to facilitate the drying of ponds and tanks. The project will also include a battery storage system to provide uninterrupted power during grid outages.

Hatchery owner Abdul Aziz noted that the solar system would fulfill the facility's electricity needs while enabling surplus power supply to the national grid. An investment of around Tk 1.20-1.25 crore is being made in the project. The movable solar-panel technology will simplify operations, allowing sunlight to reach ponds and tanks without removing roofs.

Azizur Rahman, General Manager of Satkhira Palli Bidyut Samity, mentioned that the government aims to generate 10,000 megawatts of solar power by 2030. Surplus solar power from large establishments will be purchased at Tk 10.50 per unit. He also highlighted the potential for similar solar projects at other shrimp hatcheries in Shyamnagar.
