President Urges Youth to Combat Drug Abuse with Social Movement

Dhaka:President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has implored young people, alongside social and voluntary organizations, to spearhead efforts against drug abuse and foster a robust social movement to tackle the issue.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the President addressed a 38-member delegation from Ahban, a social and cultural organization consisting of talented young students and professionals from Thakurgaon district, during a meeting at Bangabhaban. The delegation was led by Ahban Convener Lukman Sharif and Member Secretary Dr. Tahmid Ahmed.

The President emphasized that the country's progress could be significantly hindered if the younger generation is not shielded from the destructive effects of drugs. He highlighted the urgent need to involve people from all walks of life in an effective social movement to eradicate drug abuse, which is devastating young lives and affecting families and society at large.

Mirza Fakhrul stressed the importance of mobilizing communities through education, culture, science, knowledge, and human values. He noted that social and voluntary organizations nationwide could play a crucial role in promoting positive social change and enhancing people's welfare.

During the meeting, President Alamgir commended Ahban's various initiatives, such as the Thakurgaon School-based Science Fest, football tournaments for persons with disabilities, medical camps, winter clothing distribution, and the Gen-Z Carnival, among others.

He encouraged young people to contribute actively to the development of Thakurgaon district, emphasizing their potential impact on the economy, agriculture, welfare of marginalized communities, support for disadvantaged students, and addressing social issues, including drug abuse. Additionally, he urged the youth to uphold democratic values and engage in healthy cultural activities in their personal and organizational lives.

The delegation members expressed their gratitude towards the President, acknowledging him as an inspiration for the younger generation. They pledged to work towards building a humane and prosperous Bangladesh and sought the President's guidance and cooperation in their endeavors.

President Mirza Fakhrul assured the delegation of his full support and extended his best wishes for their future initiatives. The meeting was attended by the President's secretaries and senior officials.
