Solar Power Illuminates Punchabati-Muktarpur Elevated Road

Punchabati: The Panchabati-Muktarpur elevated road is set to become one of the country's notable renewable-energy-powered infrastructure projects, with all road lights to be operated using solar-generated electricity. 'Once the Panchabati to Muktarpur Bridge Road Widening and Elevated Road Construction Project becomes operational, it will bring a revolutionary change to the communication system in this region,' said Secretary of the Bridges Division and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority Mohammad Abdur Rouf.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the commitment to ensure environment-friendly and sustainable development is in line with the current government's plan for saving electricity. Secretary Rouf expressed his satisfaction with the successful implementation of the government's directive to generate electricity through solar systems during his inspection of the project site.

Additional Secretary and Director (Administration) of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority Altaf Hossain Sheikh was also present during the inspection, as detailed in a press release. The event was attended by Project Director Md. Ohiduzzaman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) of Narayanganj Rinat Fouzia, Additional Director (MOI) Anjuman Ara, Deputy Director (MOI) Md. Masud Rana Shikdar, officials from the project site office, and representatives of the contractor.

The Bridges Secretary attributed the progress of mega projects to the Prime Minister's specific directives and commitment. He acknowledged the leadership of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, which is upgrading the country's communication infrastructure to international standards.

In line with the government's environment-friendly approach, the project will operate all its road lights through solar panels or solar-generated electricity. This initiative aims to maximize the use of renewable energy and achieve the government's target of saving electricity. A total of 586 modern road lights have been installed on both sides of the 9.06-kilometre elevated road, all powered by solar energy.

Following the inspection, the Bridges Secretary urged all project stakeholders to ensure swift and smooth completion through coordination. He reviewed the project's progress and instructed the Project Director to maintain quality standards and meet the timeline for opening the road to public traffic by 2026.
