Dhaka: The three-day-long sixth economics summit titled “Bangladesh in the Midst of a Reform Crisis: A Roadmap for Long Lasting Reform” began today at Dhaka University (DU).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the summit is organized by the Economics Study Center, a student-run club under the Department of Economics, with support from the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), International Labour Organization (ILO), and International Growth Centre (IGC). DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan inaugurated the summit as the chief guest.
In his address, Prof. Khan highlighted the university’s role in generating and disseminating knowledge to support national progress. He emphasized the importance of the university’s responsibility to produce and spread knowledge throughout society to aid the country’s development.
Prof. Khan also underscored the need for stronger coordination among public and private institutions, including universities and research centers. He mentioned the presence of internationally qualified teachers and researchers at DU and the significance of recognizing their contributions to position Bangladesh in the global landscape.
The event was presided over by Hasibul Hasan, President of the Economics Study Center, with General Secretary Jarin Tasnim Raisa delivering the welcome speech. Special guests included DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (admin) Prof. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (academic) Prof. Mamun Ahmed, Chairperson of the Economics Department Prof Masuda Yasmin, and the club’s moderator Prof Raihan Selim.
