Sanaa:Sixteen researchers from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have been named in the 2026 updated list of the world's top 2 percent of scientists.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this list was prepared by Stanford University researchers in collaboration with Elsevier, a Netherlands-based academic publishing company. Released on Wednesday, the list identifies 347 researchers from 88 Bangladeshi universities and research institutions.
In Bangladesh's institutional ranking, BAU is placed third with 16 researchers on the list. The University of Dhaka leads with 22 researchers, followed by the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh, which has 20 researchers included.
The 2026 list was compiled based on the citation impact of research publications from 2025, recognizing the 16 BAU researchers for their significant research contributions during that period.
Among the BAU faculty included are Professor Dr. Md Shahjahan of Fisheries Management and Professor Dr. Ehsanul Kabir of Farm Power and Machinery. Other notable names include Professor Dr. Md Abdul Hannan of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Assistant Professor Md Fazle Rohani of Aquaculture.
This international recognition, led by Stanford University researcher John P.A. Ioannidis, evaluates the overall career-long research impact of scientists, as well as their impact in a specific year, highlighting BAU's increasing global research presence.
