Police arrested six members of a professional mugger gang, including their leader Afsana Akhtar Esha alias Mim (22) from city's Gulshan area.
Members of the thug gang, wearing doctor's aprons, putting masks on their faces and showing fake ID cards, entered houses in various pose areas of Dhaka city and used to steal belongings such as laptops and mobile phone sets.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner Md Ahad BPM, PPM (Bar) confirmed the information in a press briefing organized at DMP Media Center this morning.
He said Afsana and her accomplices have been stealing for a long time by entering flat houses in different elite areas of Dhaka including Gulshan, in guise of doctors and nurses.
Based on the information given by her, Gulshan police arrested her five associates from various areas of the capital. They were Tanmoy Biswas (30), Swapan Sheikh (45), Md Nurul Islam (27), Kalim Uddin Kalu alias Kaliullah (40) and Md Mokhleshur Rahman (51).
Police seized six laptops, 10 mobile phones and two bags from them.
