Dhaka:Police have arrested a woman and her husband in connection with the murder of her younger brother over a property dispute in the Shahjahanpur area of the capital.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the suspects have been identified as Noor Afsana Nipa, 45, and her husband, Abdus Samad Sujon, 58. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Motijheel Division stated that Nipa was apprehended at her home in North Shahjahanpur, while Sujon was arrested on Topkhana Road.

The victim, Mohammad Fakrul Hasan Farhad, 44, was found dead with his throat slit at his home in North Shahjahanpur on Wednesday. Police investigations revealed that he was murdered between 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm. Farhad's wife discovered his body upon returning home around 9:30 pm.

During the investigation, police identified a suspect wearing a red helmet in the vicinity. Authorities recovered a red helmet, a machete believed to be the murder weapon, and clothing allegedly worn by the suspect during the incident.

Farhad had ongoing disputes with his elder sister and brother-in-law over the ownership and expenses of the residence. The house was initially owned by Farhad's maternal grandfather and later divided between his sisters. Farhad, after selling two flats in Khilgaon for financial reasons, lived on the fifth floor of the house using his own funds.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the property dispute and Farhad's continued residence there were motives behind the murder. Legal proceedings will follow to identify all individuals involved in the crime.
