Mirpur:Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (SHUJAN) has condemned the recent attack, vandalism, and looting at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in the Mirpur-1 area and urged for its immediate reopening.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the civic platform reported that on September 24, a group of individuals attacked and vandalized the private healthcare facility, stealing medicines, vaccines, medical equipment, and documents. SHUJAN emphasized the centre's role in providing essential healthcare, family planning, and vaccination services to low-income women and children.
The organization expressed that the attack was unacceptable and disrupted crucial public services, potentially increasing fear and insecurity in society. A case has been filed, and nine individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, as per media reports.
SHUJAN demanded that those involved be swiftly identified and arrested, with an impartial investigation into the alleged masterminds and financiers behind the attack. They stressed that political affiliations should not hinder the investigation or judicial process.
The organization also highlighted the need for legal resolution of any land disputes, condemning the use of violence as unjustifiable. They called for an investigation into claims that the attackers aimed to seize the clinic's plot, urging justice if the claims are verified.
Furthermore, SHUJAN requested that authorities recover the stolen items and repair the damaged facility to restore its services, with government and institutional support. They advocated for alternative healthcare arrangements for the affected mothers and children.
The civic body urged the government, Ministry of Home Affairs, and police to prioritize the investigation and scrutinize the involvement of Shah Ali Police Station personnel during the attack. If negligence or complicity is proven, they called for appropriate actions against any implicated officers. They also requested transparency in the investigation's progress and the full reopening of the clinic to rebuild public confidence.
