Agargaon:The government is set to establish 'Shishu Swarga' facilities in 22 districts as part of an initiative to ensure the rights and services for children and individuals with disabilities, as announced by State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. MA Muhit.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Muhit highlighted that these facilities aim to provide integrated treatment and rehabilitation for approximately 350,000 children suffering from cerebral palsy across the country. He made this announcement during a program at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital, which was held to mark World Cerebral Palsy Day.

The program was presided over by Professor Dr. Md Nuruzzaman Khan, the Director of the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital. State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Monzoor served as the special guest.

Dr. Muhit stated that the health sector has received the highest budget allocation under the Prime Minister's directive. As part of this initiative, 'Shishu Swarga' facilities will be established in various districts for the treatment and rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy. Additionally, he mentioned the launch of a pilot project at Karail slum, where services are being provided to around 300 identified children.

Emphasizing the need for a 'community-based early case detection' system, Dr. Muhit pointed out its importance for delivering healthcare services to children in remote areas. He lauded the dedication of doctors and health workers who continue to serve a large number of patients despite challenges and called for collective efforts from all parties involved in the health sector to create a universal and inclusive healthcare system for children with disabilities.

Earlier in the day, a rally was held at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital, which saw participation from doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff. World Cerebral Palsy Day, observed annually on October 6, serves as a platform to raise awareness about the rights and needs of individuals with cerebral palsy.
