Sherif for dealing land grabbers with an iron hand

CHITTAGONG, Dec 20, 2016 (BSS) - Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif today termed the land grabbers as enemies to the country and nation and directed the concerned departments to deal them with an iron hand.

The minister said this while exchanging views with Chittagong District administration about overall land management, tax collection and management of vested property at Chittagong Circuit House.

Referring to the ongoing digital system of land survey, record making and preservation, the minister said the present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has started setting up 3,000 land offices as part of renovation of dilapidated land and construction of new offices across the country.

The minister also listed out that construction work of around 1,000 new land offices out of the 3,000 had already been completed.

Reminding the atrocity of the BNP-Jamaat alliance on January 5, 2014, the land minister said the enemies to the nation and humanity set ablaze a good number of land offices across the country as part of their sabotage plan.

He emphatically said that such acts cannot be recurred in the country again.

He also urged all concerned to work with utmost sincerity to implement the modern land management project including char development, mutation of land, miss-case, collection of land revenue and proper management of vested property.

Food Minister Quamrul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Shamsul Arefin, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Abdul Jalil and Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Masrur Rahman, among others, were present at the meeting.

Later, the minister paid a courtesy call on former mayor and Chittagong city Awami League president ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury at his Chasma Hill residence.
