Sheikh Hasina will be head of poll-time govt: Quader

DHAKA, Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said Sheikh Hasina will remain as the head of the poll-time government.

"Sheikh Hasina, the worthy daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will lead the government during the next elections. I am also giving a message that she will be the Prime Minister of Bangladesh again winning the next elections, Insha Allah," he said, pointing at BNP's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

The minister made the remarks while addressing a peace and development rally organised by AL South and North City units at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque here marking the 60th birthday of Shaheed Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Obaidul Quader said, "Mirza Fakhrul's pocket is as hot as his words."

"They (BNP men) intimidate us by uttering warnings," he said, adding that Mirza Fakhrul fasts for three hours after eating breakfast at a five-star hotel.

After two and a half hours, he broke his fasting by drinking foreign juice, he said, pointing to the activities of BNP leader Fakhrul in the name of the movement.

He asked: "Are you doing this kind of movement? Then, again send us a message? Warn us by giving an ultimatum of leaving the power?

"To whom will Sheikh Hasina hand over power? To you or to the convicted prince Tarique Rahman?" he raised the question, pointing at Fakhrul.

About the caretaker government, the veteran AL leader said it is dead, and it lies at Azimpur graveyard.

"It (caretaker government) will not return," he said, adding that the nightmare of 1/11 will no longer succeed.

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader advised BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on not being inspired by his foreign masters because they are currently busy with their own problems.

Pointing to the countrymen, he urged all to vote for 'Boat', the election symbol of AL.

He said if people want to live with peace and happiness and establish democracy in Bangladesh, they should vote in favour of AL.

About the price of goods, AL general secretary said people are suffering from the price hike of goods as the price of those goods has increased all over the world.

"Big forces are driving up prices. Today the director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) stated that Bangladesh is running in the right way under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. Inflation is decreasing gradually," he added.

Noting that the future of Bangladesh is bright, the minister urged all to keep patience during their recent sufferings.

"Now you are suffering, we admit. But remember - there is someone (the Premier) who is working day and night to mitigate your sufferings," he continued.

With Dhaka South City unit President Abu Ahmed Mannafi (valiant freedom fighter), the rally, was addressed, among others, by the party's Presidium Members Shajahan Khan, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Qamrul Islam, Dr Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, AL Joint General Secretaries Information and Broadcasting Minister and Dr Hasan Mahmud and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organising Secretary Mirza Azam, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Md Atiqul Islam, Awami Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Bangladesh Awami Swechasebak League President Gazi Mesbaul Hossain Shachchu and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) President Saddam Hossain.
