Sylhet: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen revealed today that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina allegedly concealed information regarding her land holdings in the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission (EC) before the 2008 elections. Dr Momen stated that the affidavit listed 5.2 acres of agricultural land, while an ACC investigation discovered a total of 29 acres.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Momen shared these findings with journalists after laying the foundation stone of the ACC’s divisional office building in the Alampur area of South Surma. Despite the ACC’s efforts to address the discrepancy at the time, the cancellation of Sheikh Hasina’s nomination was not implemented.

Dr Momen emphasized that the ACC operates without external pressure, though it faces various limitations. He stressed the importance of electing honest individuals, regardless of their political affiliations. The integrity of candidates, he noted, is more crucial than their party membership.

The ACC Chairman further stated that election candidates are required to disclose all domestic and foreign sources of income in their affidavits. He urged the media to play a role in uncovering any concealed information to inform the public. Dr Momen clarified that the ACC’s role is to provide evidence and information to the courts, which are responsible for delivering judgments.

Following the press interaction, Dr Momen participated in an ACC public hearing at the Kazi Nazrul Auditorium in Sylhet.
