Gaibandha: Shahiduzzaman Shahid and Mostaque Ahmed Mostaque have been elected as the president and general secretary, respectively, of the Gaibandha Municipality unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Kazi Amirul Islam Foku announced the results on Saturday evening after the unit’s biennial council and conference at the Public Library and Club auditorium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the day’s events commenced with an inaugural session in the morning at the Central Shaheed Minar premises. The ceremony featured the hoisting of national and party flags and the release of pigeons as symbols of peace, signifying the start of the electoral process.
Professor Aminul Islam, co-organising secretary of the BNP National Executive Committee for the Rangpur Division, graced the event as the chief guest. Abdul Khaleque, co-organising secretary of the same division, attended as a special guest. The programme was conducted by Mostaque Ahmed Mostaque, the acting general secretary of Poura BNP, and included speeches by District BNP President Professor Dr. Mainul Hasan Sadik and General Secretary Mahamudunnabi Titul.
The election saw participation from more than 450 councillors, who cast their votes to choose the new leadership, which included the posts of president, general secretary, and organising secretary. The vote counting process continued until 7 pm, after which Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Kazi Amirul Islam Foku officially declared the results.
