Khulna: President of Khulna City BNP Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona today said that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, was the proclaimed of independence, founder of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the architect of modern Bangladesh. He was not only a statesman but also a living pioneer of multi-party democracy, occupying an unforgettable chapter in the country's political history.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Advocate Mona made the remarks while presiding over a preparatory meeting of Khulna City BNP at the party office this afternoon marking the 90th birth anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. The meeting unanimously decided to hold a discussion titled "Shaheed Zia in Safeguarding Independence, Sovereignty and Democracy" at the Khulna Press Club banquet hall marking the 90th birth anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
Mona said Ziaur Rahman's ideals, patriotism and visionary leadership had far-reaching impacts on state governance and the rebuilding of democratic institutions in post-independence Bangladesh. Speaking at the meeting, Khulna City BNP General Secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin said Ziaur Rahman was not confined to running the state, he envisioned a modern, development-oriented, free and democratic Bangladesh. His 19-point programme and pragmatic policy initiatives opened new horizons in the country's economic and social structure.
Among others, Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Moni, Molla Farid Ahmed, Asaduzzaman Asad, Ekramul Kabir Milton, Jamal Talukder, Bir Muktijoddha Alamgir Hossain, Engineer Nur Islam Bachchu, Akhtaruzzaman Talukder Sajib, Abu Sayeed Sheikh, Maulana Md Abu Nayeem Kazi, Bir Muktijoddha Sheikh Wahidur Rahman and Bir Muktijoddha Sheikh Zainal Abedin spoke on the occasion.
