Dhaka:BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has highlighted the significant role of Shaheed Nazir Uddin Jihad in Bangladesh's democratic history, emphasizing his sacrifice for democracy.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi conveyed his tribute to Jihad on the 36th anniversary of his martyrdom, known as Shaheed Jihad Day. He honored Jihad, a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activist, and prayed for his soul's eternal peace.

Jihad was a resident of Ullapara upazila in Sirajganj and was killed in Dhaka on October 10, 1990, during a protest against the autocratic regime of Hussain Muhammad Ershad. Rizvi described Jihad as an unforgettable figure in the anti-autocracy movement, which fought for the restoration of multiparty democracy, freedom of expression, and press freedom.

Rizvi stated that Jihad's sacrifice contributed to the mass uprising that year, leading to the fall of the Ershad regime. He emphasized that Jihad's role in the victory of democracy during the 1990s is a source of national pride.

He further expressed that realizing Jihad's aspirations requires embedding democratic values throughout the state and society. Rizvi concluded by asserting that making these values the foundation of the state is essential to fulfilling the dreams for which Jihad gave his life.
