Rangpur:'Shah Alam Store' in Nababganj Bazar, Rangpur city, has been fined Taka 5,000 for selling counterfeit mosquito coils.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted the operation on Tuesday, led by Rangpur District DNCRP Assistant Directors Momtaz Begum and Mostafizur Rahman.
The operation targeted shops in the Nababganj Bazar and Medical Mour areas, where several other stores faced fines for various irregularities. The crackdown followed allegations that mosquito coils named 'Baoma' and 'Boma' were imitating the popular 'Baoma' brand in name and packaging design.
Shah Alam Store was fined after evidence of selling these counterfeit coils was discovered. Traders received warnings to cease selling counterfeit goods in the future. Golam Morshed, Assistant National Sales Manager for Baoma coils, was present during the operation.
The initiative aimed to raise public awareness and curb the spread of counterfeit products in the market. DNCRP Assistant Director Momtaz Begum stated that regular operations against counterfeit coils and other adulterated products would continue.
