Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested seven gamblers including a ward councilor in a drive from Makrail Guchchagram under Lohagara upazila of the district last night.
The arrested persons are Syed Masud Rana Bablu, councilor of Narail municipality No-2 ward, Rabiul Islam, 45, Taifur Shikder, 30, Junaid Sheikh, 40, Saddam Shikder, 30, Anju Sardar, 42, and Kabul Sheikh, 30.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police conducted a raid in the area around 10pm last night and arrested them from the house of one Shamim Fakir with gambling equipment while they were gambling there, DB police sources said.
The team also seized 53 Yaba tablets, cash Taka 7,200 and two 2 sets of playing cards.
Office-in-charge (OC) of DB Police of Lohagara Police Station Sajedul Islam confirmed the matter.
Two separate cases were filed in this connection with Lohagara Police Station, he said.
Police produced them to the court this morning and the court sent them to jail, the OC added.
