Seminar on ‘Role of Zakat in Poverty Alleviation’ held

A day-long divisional level seminar titled 'Role of Zakat in Poverty Alleviation' was held at the conference room of the Divisional Commissioner in the city today.

The Rangpur Divisional Office of Islamic Foundation under the auspices of the Ministry of Religious Affairs organised the event with Director General of Islamic Foundation (Additional Secretary) Dr. Mohd Bashirul Alam in the chair.

Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md. Habibur Rahman as the chief guest addressed the seminar moderated by Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation at its Rangpur Divisional Office Md. Mosaddekul Alam.

Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur Range Police Mohd Abdul Alim Mahmud, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nur Alam Mina, Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen and Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Mohammad Mahbub Alam spoke as special guests.

The speakers said the stronger the government Zakat fund, the easier it will be to alleviate poverty.

They said the present government has enacted the Zakat Fund Management Act-2023 to improve Zakat management and the government Zakat Fund is spent in a proper manner according to Islamic Shariah.

Every year, the money of Zakat Fund is spent on various welfare activities including employment of the needy, treatment programs at children's hospitals, scholarships, rehabilitation of the disabled, sewing training programs for needy women.

Additional District Commissioners of all eight districts, Director of Islamic Foundation at its Rangpur Divisional Office Md. Shahjahan, Deputy Directors of Islamic Foundation of eight districts, divisional level departmental officials, prominent businessmen, politicians, important Islamic thinkers, Imam and Khatibs were present.
