Security measures taken at markets, shopping malls: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun today said security measures have been taken to ensure foolproof security at markets and shopping malls in the city.

"Security measures have been taken at all markets and shopping malls in the city along with creating security zones at different levels," he old journalists after visiting Bashundhara Shopping Mall at Karwan Bazar.

The IGP said traffic system has also been strengthened for smooth movement of people so that they can make Eid shopping without any fear.

During the visit, he talked to shopkeepers and buyers about security and law and order situation of the markets and shopping malls in the city.

He said traffic division has been working to keep traffic system normal, while additional commissioners also keep remain on roads till Iftar.

He said the DMP Commissioner takes Iftar with the forces on duty on the roads.

DMP Commissioner Khandaker Ghulam Faruq, Additional IGP Md Atiqul Islam, Chief of the CTTC and additional commissioner Md Asaduzzaman, additional commissioner and chief of DB Md Harun-or-Rashid and senior police officers accompanied the IGP.

Security measures have also been taken ahead of the Pahela Baishakh and the holy Eid-ul-Fitr at markets, shopping malls and roads across the country. Metropolitan Police, District Police, RAB, APBn and intelligence agencies have been working together to this end.

"We are yet to receive any threat regarding Pahela Baishakh. However, maximum security measures will be taken during the Mongol procession of Pahela Baishakh," the IGP said.
