Dhaka: Security measures have been strengthened in all eight airports across the country, including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, following alerts over possible militant attacks on key installations. Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Air Vice Marshal Md. Mostafa Mahmud Siddiq revealed this information during a media briefing at the CAAB headquarters.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, CAAB received instructions from Police Headquarters to enhance security at these airports. CAAB had issued a security alert in response to a letter from Police Headquarters, directing them to strengthen security protocols. Measures were implemented in accordance with the directives provided.
Sources indicated that surveillance has been intensified at airports due to recent security concerns. Additional security personnel have been deployed at key entry points, terminal areas, and sensitive installations, with a particular focus on Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The issuance of a high alert by CAAB followed the reception of the letter from Police Headquarters, prompting all units of law enforcement agencies operating at airports to adopt special measures. Enhanced security was also applied to critical airport facilities, alongside increased intelligence surveillance.
Furthermore, additional uniformed and plainclothes officers have been stationed at the airports, with intensified security screening processes in place at both arrival and departure areas.
