Dhaka: A schoolgirl from Dhaka’s Hazaribagh was allegedly stabbed to death by her lover, police reported on Thursday, following suspicions of her involvement in another relationship.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the victim, Shahriar Sharmin Binti, was a Class 9 student at Rayer Bazar High School under Hazaribagh Police Station. On Wednesday night, around 9:30 pm, the accused, Siam, reportedly called her over the phone, asking her to leave her home.
Police detailed that Siam attacked Binti from behind with a sharp knife on a paved road in the Charkaghat area under Hazaribagh Police Station, leaving her critically injured. Locals promptly took her to Sikder Medical Hospital, and she was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The victim’s father, Md Billal Hossain, subsequently filed a murder case with Hazaribagh Police Station. DC Masud Alam stated that police apprehended the suspect around 10 am on Thursday during a raid in the Kathalbagan area under Kalabagan Police Station. Authorities recovered a knife used in the killing, along with a bloodstained vest, trousers, and a mobile phone from his possession.
Police reports indicate that Binti and Siam, also known as Iman, had both attended the same school and maintained a romantic relationship for about four years. Over time, their relationship soured as Siam suspected Binti had become involved with another boy. DC Masud Alam mentioned that Siam may have initially intended to resolve the issue through discussion, but the argument escalated, leading to the fatal stabbing.
Further legal proceedings in the case are ongoing.
