Fatikchhari: A schoolboy drowned while taking a bath in a pond at Fatikchhari upazila of the district this afternoon. The deceased was Md. Nahidul Islam, 15, son of Kamal Uddin of Notun Bazar area under Bagan Bazar union of the upazila and a student of class X at Bagan Bazar High School.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nahid went to the pond near the school to bathe with his classmates after school around 4 pm. After bathing, the others got up, but he could not get up. His friends tried to rescue him but failed.
Later, the fire service and locals recovered Nahid’s body. Local UP member Md. Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter. Bagan Bazar High School headmaster Chowdhury Mohammad Imam Uddin Noori said that the accident occurred when 5-6 school students went to the pond for bathing in the afternoon.
