Kurigram: An eighth grade student died after being bitten by a venomous snake in Phulbari upazila of Kurigram district in the early hours of today. The deceased was identified as Lima Akhter, daughter of Abdul Latif of Bhangamor union. She was a student of Nagarajpur High School.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the incident took place on Friday night when Lima went to provide her father with a gaslight. During this time, she was bitten by a venomous snake, locally known as Gorash.
Family members and neighbors immediately rushed her to Kurigram General Hospital around 3:30am. However, due to the unavailability of antivenom facilities, she was referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Tragically, Lima succumbed to her injuries from the bite on the way to the hospital at around 7:30am today.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Phulbari Police Station Shawkat Ali Sarkar confirmed the incident.
