Sylhet: Fulfilling its earlier commitment, the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) completely removed sacrificial animal waste within just eight hours despite continuous rain on the day of Eid-ul-Azha today. Sylhet city administrator Abdul Quiyum Choudhury stated that the city’s cleanliness was restored by 6pm through the tireless efforts of sanitation workers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this achievement was made possible through the joint efforts of sanitation workers and conscious city residents. The number of animals sacrificed in Sylhet was lesser compared to Dhaka and Chattogram, which contributed to manageable waste disposal.
The SCC took proactive measures by distributing around 30,000 environment-friendly polybags and sufficient bleaching powder to aid in waste management. Additionally, a special hotline number was active to facilitate instant communication with citizens. Sanitation workers commenced the cleaning of waste from cattle markets from Wednesday night, ensuring a swift and efficient cleanup process.
