Dhaka: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) is set to hear pleas tomorrow, March 3, regarding the acquittal of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case. These pleas have been filed by the state and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), both challenging the High Court (HC) judgment that led to her acquittal.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a three-member Appellate Division bench, led by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, issued an order today for the case to proceed. The High Court had earlier, on November 27, allowed appeals from Begum Khaleda Zia and two other convicts, disputing their conviction and sentencing by a lower court in the graft case, and subsequently acquitted them of all charges.

The state and ACC’s challenge against the High Court’s judgment has now reached the Appellate Division’s regular bench for a hearing. The case appeared on today’s cause list, marking a significant step in the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding the high-profile graft case.
