Dhaka: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has scheduled July 30 for delivering its judgment on the appeal filed by Mobarak Hossain, who is contesting the death sentence imposed by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) for his involvement in crimes against humanity during 1971.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a five-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, issued the order following a hearing on the appeal. Prominent legal experts, including Senior Advocate SM Shahjahan and Barrister Emran A Siddique, represented Mobarak Hossain during the proceedings. Gazi MH Tamim advocated on behalf of the ICT prosecution.
The ICT-1 had initially sentenced Md Mobarak Hossain on November 24, 2014. He was convicted for his role in crimes against humanity in 1971, specifically found guilty on two out of five charges brought against him. Mobarak Hossain hails from Akhaurha in Brahmanbaria, where the atrocities were committed.
