SC Adjourns Hearing on CG System Review Plea Until Tomorrow

Dhaka: The apex court today adjourned till tomorrow the hearing on review petitions pleading for restoration of the 13th amendment to the constitution and reinstatement of the poll-time non-party caretaker government (CG) system. A six-judge Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed passed the order at the end of today’s hearing.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, senior advocates Zainul Abedin and Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, along with Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir, took part in the hearing for the pleas. A total of four pleas were filed regarding this matter. One plea was filed by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, another by Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Miah Golam Parwar, a third by five noted citizens including Badiul Alam Majumdar, Secretary of the rights organization Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik, and the last by another individual. All the pleas are being heard concurrently.



The High Court had previously declared the scrapping of the caretaker government system in the constitution as illegal on December 17, 2024. Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman, after the pronouncement of the judgment, informed journalists that the High Court’s decision makes the caretaker system a part of the constitution once again.
