DHAKA Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon today said that he accepted the decision of his party Awami League (AL) over nomination to the mayoral candidate for the DSCC polls slated for January 30 next.
My leader Sheikh Hasina is the guardian of mine after my father. She took the decision which she thought well. I accepted the decision spontaneously, he said in a reaction at a press conference at the Nagar Bhaban here a day after AL nominated Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh for vying for the mayoral post in the DSCC polls.
Noting that 80 percent to 90 percent work of the special 'Jol-Shobujer Dhaka Project (city covered with water and green)' has already been completed, the DSCC mayor said. My tenure will end on May 17 next. I will continue all activities during this period.
Hoping that the work of the project will be completed within two or three months, Khokon said, Apart from this there are some long term projects. I will also work to advance those projects. The next mayor to be elected by the people will complete the work.
Replying to a query from journalists, he said, I am successful as mayor. But I am a human being not an angel. Mistakes might have been done (by me).
He also said that he will help the next mayor with his experience and suggestions.
According to the polls schedule, the last date for filing nomination papers is December 31. The returning officers will scrutinise the nomination papers on January 2, and the last date for withdrawing candidacy is January 9.
