Samsung Galaxy A13 5G Review: Is it worth it?

The Galaxy A series phone is Samsung’s budget to the mid-priced line of smartphones. The phones in this series are designed for users who want a phone with high-end features but don’t want to pay the high price tag that comes with flagship phones. Introduced in 2014, the A series has developed the product line significantly over the years. Now they are launching the latest A-series phone, Galaxy A13 5G, globally, which was first released in the USA in December 2021. Let’s get to know the in-depth analysis of Samsung Galaxy A13 5G.

Key Features of Samsung Galaxy A13

Design and Hardware

The A13’s design is not significantly refined. But, the thick bezels at the front come with a 6.5-inch display, along with a teardrop notch and extra-large chin. It has a 720 LCD panel, and for a budget phone like A13, it is okay, but the colors are not very vibrant.

There doesn’t appear to be a synthesizer protector coating applied, which may result in a fingerprint that is not easy to wipe off. This black plastic case with an eggshell finish is curved at the corners and has flashlights and three cameras in the top left corner. A Samsung logo is placed near the bottom.

You will not have an option to choose from different colors as the phone comes in black color only.

There’s a volume rocker with a satisfyingly quick fingerprint sensor located to the right of the volume buttons. An SD card and SIM card wallet are located on the left. Towards the bottom, there is a USB-C port, a downwards-firing speaker, and a 3.5-millimeter port headphone jack.

That single speaker is the A13’s sole one, and it does not sound excellent. However, it gets loud enough, but it doesn’t produce much bass and is harsh.

All told, A13 isn’t an especially well-built piece if you want to feel the top-notch quality. But it is a budget 5G phone, so the hardware you are getting is good enough for the budget-friendly phones. It’s flimsy, their heads flex, and the quality of the display is unimpressive. But that is tempered by the fact it is less expensive than expected.

Display

Samsung Galaxy A13 5G comes with a PLS TFT display which has a 90Hz refresh rate. With an 81.1% screen-to-body ratio, A13 5G has a 720 x 1600 pixel resolution, which maintains a 20:9 ratio. So, these features can give you a good user experience.

and performance

The phone comes with One UI 3.1 over Android 11. Hence, do not expect many surprises. However, it has the usual features found on most modern Samsung phones, including optional edge panels that add additional shortcuts and the ability to place apps in little windows for multitasking.

The best part of this phone’s software is that Samsung is offering four years of a security patch for the A13. It is refreshing to see such a low-cost phone receiving such great after-sales service.

The A13 5G is of better performance than anticipated, thanks to its MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset, which is paired with four gigs of RAM. Additionally, the Octa-core CPU with 2×2.2 GHz Cortex-A76 & 6×2.0 GHz Cortex-A55, the phone can give you a moderately fast speed.

Therefore, opening and switching between apps, even while playing games in heavy compatibility mode, can be done in a blink of an eye. For example, Call of Duty Mobile can be turned off without a hitch. Although you may have the odd stutter or hold every now and then, the user experience of this budget device is much more than good enough for a budget smartphone.

Camera

The Galaxy A13’s primary rear-facing camera has a 50-megapixel resolution, and its secondary cameras are two megapixels, one for the macro lens and one for the depth. The primary camera gets decent pictures in brilliant light. With 50 megapixels binned down to 12.5, it can lead to pleasing footage. Images taken in reasonable light are good enough for social media, though you may even look into them in detail if you zoom in.

The A13 camera has its limitations in dim lighting. You do not have the option to choose a low-light setting, despite ISO rising into the thousands, and shutter speed can only remain slow even in the darkest of settings.

However, the additional 2-megapixel cameras in the back are mostly useless. So, eventually, you will be working with the wide-angle lens only. A13 5G has a 5-megapixel selfie camera along with an f/2.0 aperture.

Battery

Certainly, the battery life on the Samsung A13 5G phone is outstanding. It is equipped with a non removable Li-Po 5000 mAh battery, which can give you 7 hours of continuous heavy use. This time included internet surfing, messaging, light gaming, and YouTube-watching on a fast 5G network.

Moreover, you can even get two days of battery backup with moderate use. The phone also comes with a 15W fast charging capability. However, there is no charger in the box for the US version. So, you may need to buy the charger if you don’t see it in the box.

Storage

The Samsung Galaxy A13 5G comes with only one internal memory option. It offers 64 GB built-in memory with 4GB RAM. However, the phone has an external memory slot, and you can insert a microSD memory card into it.

Price of Samsung Galaxy A13 5G

The Samsung A13 5G is priced at $250 or around Tk. 21,000 ($1= Tk. 85). However, this price may change after the phone is launched officially in the country.

Verdict

So, should you buy a Samsung Galaxy A13 5G? Yes, if you want great performance at a low price. Further, the battery holds up well, and it’s excellent compared to phones in this price range. Also, the camera is good enough for your daily social media updates.
