Rangpur: Abu Saleh Akon of the Daily Nayadiganta and Mynul Hasan Sohel of the Daily Inqilab have been elected President and general secretary (GS) of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU): Chief Election Commissioner M A Aziz announced the result on the DRU Bhaban premises following the polling from 9am to 5pm without any break. Akon secured 801 votes while Sohel bagged 549 votes in the election held today. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Gazi Anwar was elected vice president securing 698 votes, while Nadia Sharmin was made joint secretary with 723 votes. The election also saw the appointment of other key office bearers, including Finance Secretary Shakhawat Hossain Sumon, who was elected unopposed, and Organising Secretary Abdul Hye Tuhin, who secured 550 votes. Office Secretary Rafik Rafi garnered 683 votes, and Women Affairs Secretary Rozina Rozi received 907 votes, making her one of the top vote-getters. Publicity and Publication Secretary Mizan Chowdhury obtained 782 votes, ICT and Training Secreta ry Shariful Islam had 632 votes, and Sports Secretary Mujibur Rahman secured 792 votes. The positions of Hospitality Secretary and Welfare Secretary were filled uncontested by Mohammad Salim Ullah Mezbah and Rafique Mridha, respectively. The elected members of the DRU executive committee are Jonayed Shishir, Akhtaruzzaman, Borhanuddin, Aminul Huq Bhuiyan, Farroque Alam, Sumon Chowdhury, and Md Solimullah, completing the leadership team set to guide the Dhaka Reporters Unity in its upcoming term.
