Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed today emphasized the importance of literary figures focusing on works that inspire democracy and uphold people’s rights, declaring that the “chapter of fire” ended on August 5, 2024.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salahuddin made these remarks while serving as a special guest at a view exchange program titled “The Role and Responsibility of Poets and Writers in the Transition to Democracy.” The event was organized by the BNP Media Cell at the National Press Club’s Abdus Salam Hall.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman was virtually present as the chief guest, while President of the Jatiya Kabita Parishad Mohan Raihan presided over the event. The general secretary of the organization, Rezauddin Stalin, delivered a welcome speech.
During his address, Salahuddin responded to a poet who had previously mentioned “volcanic lava” in their speech. He encouraged writers to channel such intensity against those who served autocratic regimes, while simultaneously spreading messages of democracy and people’s rights. He criticized writers who remained silent during times of genocide and urged literary figures to adopt a broader perspective to observe and dream for the nation.
Other speakers at the event included BNP Vice Chairman Nurul Islam Moni, Media Cell Convener Professor Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel, Adviser to BNP’s Acting Chairman Dr. Mahadi Amin, and Amader Somoy editor Abu Sayeed Khan.
