Sakhawat Mourns Death of UN Peacekeepers

Dhaka: Shipping Adviser Brig General (retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain has expressed profound grief over the recent tragic death of six Bangladesh Army peacekeepers in Sudan. In a condolence message issued today, Dr Sakhawat emphasized the significant role Bangladeshi peacekeepers have played in safeguarding global peace and stability. He also voiced deep concern over the brutal attack on the peacekeepers serving under the UN mission.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser highlighted how Bangladesh’s peacekeepers have always set unique examples of courage, professionalism, and dedication in establishing world peace. Dr Sakhawat remarked that the death of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers while on duty in Sudan is a matter of profound grief for the nation. He described the sacrifice of these brave army members, who were committed to serving world peace and humanity, as an irreparable loss for the country.



In his message, the Shipping Adviser prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. Additionally, he wished for the speedy recovery of the eight injured Bangladeshi peacekeepers. Dr Sakhawat also urged all concerned parties to take effective measures to immediately stop the ongoing violence in Sudan.



The tragic incident, which resulted in the loss of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers and left eight others seriously injured, occurred during a rebel attack in the Abyei area of Sudan on December 13.
