Dhaka: Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain has highlighted the necessity of conducting dredging activities to maintain the navigability of rivers. Speaking at a seminar titled ‘Shipping and Navigability: Challenges and Ways to Overcome,’ which took place at a city hotel on Tuesday, he stressed the importance of regular dredging with consideration for public convenience.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sakhawat, who also serves as the labour and employment adviser, called upon the community to engage actively in efforts to sustain the inland waterways by ensuring the navigability of the nation’s rivers. He emphasized that consistent dredging operations are vital to keeping these waterways functional.
The seminar was co-organized by the Bangladesh Cutter Suction Dredgers Association, Prakriti O Jibon Foundation, Bangladesh River Foundation, and River and Delta Research Center. The event saw the participation of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, among other notable attendees.
