Dhaka: A court here today convicted and sentenced ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to seven years and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy to five years of imprisonment in a case concerning alleged irregularities in the allocation of a 10-katha plot in the Rajuk New Town Project in Purbachol.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 delivered the judgment in the absence of the convicts, as they have not yet been apprehended and were tried in absentia. The court also imposed a fine of Taka one lakh on Joy, who previously served as the information and communication technology adviser to his mother, Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier, the Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 had set today as the date for delivering the judgment following the completion of arguments by both the prosecution and defense on November 23. The case was initially filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director SM Rashedul Hasan against 15 accused, including Sheikh Hasina and Sajeeb Wazed Joy, with the charge-sheet later naming 17 individuals.

The charges in these cases were framed by the court on July 31, 2025, with arrest warrants subsequently issued for the accused.
