Chittagong: Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Saching Prue today emphasized the necessity of transforming Bandarban into a clean and safe tourist spot. He encouraged stakeholders to harness the tourism potential of CHT by organizing and adorning the region to create a favorable impression for visitors.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister expressed these views at a tourism development discussion held in the conference room of the Bandarban Deputy Commissioner, where he was the chief guest. Prue highlighted the significance of harmony between the hill and plain communities, suggesting that these diverse groups could significantly contribute to achieving the "rainbow nation" concept.
Prue also discussed the potential for establishing an integrated tourism route linking Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban. With tourist numbers anticipated to rise from October, he urged all parties to commence thorough preparations immediately. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the roads around Keranihat, the district's gateway, free of traffic and clean.
The minister underscored the need for providing maximum services and safety to tourists while ensuring the quality and hygiene of facilities. He also urged local tour guides to be courteous and called for the development of English-speaking guides to cater to international visitors.
Prue concluded by stating that the transformation of the tourism sector requires collaborative efforts. He noted that Bandarban's development into an ideal tourist city depends on the joint efforts of the administration, tourist police, transport and hotel owners, and local residents. The meeting was presided over by Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Md Saniul Ferdous, with representatives from various government and private entities in attendance.
