Sitakunda: Sitakunda Thana Police have filed a sabotage case against 72 local leaders and activists from the banned Awami League, Chhatra League, and Jubo League, on allegations of attempts to destabilize the country. Sub Inspector Dhantosh Chakma of Faujdarhat Police Outpost lodged the case with the Sitakunda Model Police Station, identifying 37 individuals by name and listing 35 others as unidentified.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case statement reveals that the accused organized a flash procession on Friday afternoon along the port-bound road near DC Park in South Salimpur. It is alleged that during this procession, participants chanted slogans and attempted organized acts of sabotage, leading to public panic. Upon inspecting the scene, police discovered shell casings and remnants of an exploded crude bomb, commonly referred to as a cocktail.
Following the incident, police conducted a raid and arrested three of the accused: Syed Ashraf, Saifuddin Sikder Parvez, and Ashraful Islam. The accused face charges including conspiracy against the state, endangering public safety, and engaging in subversive activities.
Investigation Officer Mohammad Alamgir from the Sitakunda Model Police Station confirmed the arrests and stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
