Rajshahi: Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) has embarked on a series of infrastructural development projects aimed at bolstering its academic and research activities. These initiatives are part of a strategic effort to provide improved facilities for faculty, researchers, and students.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, RUET is currently constructing 11 new 10-storey buildings on its campus. This extensive development is part of a Taka 599.30-crore project, implemented by the University Grants Commission and RUET, and initiated by the Department of Secondary and Higher Education under the Ministry of Education. The project, titled “Further Development of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Revised),” spans five years and focuses on constructing necessary physical infrastructures and installing equipment to enhance the quality of education and research.

Amit Roy Chakrabvarty, director of the project, highlighted that the primary goal is to expand facilities for higher research and training, addressing the increasing demand for technical expertise in the country. The project includes the construction of 10-storey buildings for various purposes, such as administrative functions, student accommodations, and faculty quarters. Additionally, a two-storey Vice-Chancellor’s bungalow-cum-office and a three-storey medical centre are part of the development.

To strengthen security and surveillance on campus, the project also involves installing closed-circuit cameras and accessories. Furthermore, there is a provision for supplying scientific, laboratory, and office equipment to enhance laboratory and extracurricular facilities for students.

Amit Roy stated that 70 percent of the project had been completed, with the remaining work expected to finish soon. Previously, several infrastructures, including administration and architecture buildings, student halls, and library facilities, were constructed at a cost of around Taka 44.37 crore.

Prof SM Abdur Razzaque, Vice-Chancellor of RUET, expressed optimism about the project’s impact, anticipating that the campus will take on a new look by the year’s end. He emphasized that the improved facilities would significantly contribute to advancing academic standards in teaching and research, transforming the university into a centre of excellence. Prof Razzaque envisaged RUET as the country’s foremost institution for technological learning, where academia and industry experts collaborate to develop skilled human resources capable of leading technological, infrastructural, and informational advancements.
