Rajshahi: Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) authority has cancelled the lifetime studentships of four leaders of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL). The authority also implemented disciplinary actions against 48 other leaders and workers of BCL.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision was made during a meeting of the academic disciplinary committee, chaired by Vice-chancellor Prof SM Abdur Razzaque. The expelled students include BCL RUET unit president Fahmid Latif Lion, General Secretary Soumik Shaha, Shswata Shaha Sagar, and Mrinmoy Kanti Biswash.
RUET sources revealed that the students were expelled after being found guilty of attacking the anti-discrimination students’ movement in July and August. Previously, a probe committee was formed by the RUET authority to investigate allegations of attacks on student demonstrators opposing the fascist regime.
The RUET administration ultimately decided on the expulsions based on the probe committee’s findings, sources confirmed.
