Rangpur: Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Environment, Forests and Climate Change, and Water Resources, has urged citizens to vote ‘Yes’ in the upcoming referendum aimed at implementing significant constitutional changes. “Positive changes must be made in running the country so that we never forget those who sacrificed their lives selflessly in different struggles and movements from 1971 to 1924 for positive changes,” she stated while leading a rally from the Rangpur Deputy Commissioner’s office to the July Monument Square.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana Hasan emphasized the importance of voting ‘Yes’ to compel any future government to amend the constitution and laws as necessary, and to ensure the independence of the judiciary. A victorious ‘Yes’ vote, she explained, would free the administration from party influence, promote the establishment of a caretaker government for election purposes, and enhance women’s participation and constitutional rights.

She further noted that a ‘Yes’ vote would enable citizens to influence administrative decisions, thereby necessitating widespread support for the referendum. Hasan argued that such a vote would ensure balance in governance, discouraging the need for citizens to flee the country and preventing fraudulent voting practices. This would empower people to elect their representatives and inform political leaders of their limited tenure, thereby fostering accountability and democracy within political parties.

Rizwana Hasan also advocated for empowering the President to act as a national guardian in times of division, thereby restoring the balance of power. She insisted that the referendum is a national concern, transcending personal, societal, and partisan interests. She urged, “Vote ‘Yes’ if you want the country to not continue as before and to bring a balance in running the country.”

The event was attended by Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam, Rangpur Range DIG Aminul Islam, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan, Superintendent of Police Md Marufat Hussaine, and other high-ranking officials.
