BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman Pledges Support for July Uprising Families

Dhaka: BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has announced that his party will support families affected by the July Uprising if they come to power in the next election. To facilitate this, a dedicated department will be established under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs (MoLWA).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman made this statement during a meeting with the families of those killed and injured in the July Uprising, held at the KIB auditorium in Khamarbari. Dr. Zubaida Rahman, his wife, was also present at the event. Rahman emphasized the historical significance of the July warriors, equating them with the freedom fighters of 1971, and promised comprehensive support including healthcare and rehabilitation services.

Tarique Rahman highlighted the sacrifices made during the July Uprising, stating that over 1,400 people were martyred while 3,000 were injured, with many suffering severe disabilities. He described these events as genocide and praised the courage displayed by the July warriors
in forcing the fascist regime to relinquish power.

He further stated that the uprising was a unifying movement for the preservation of independence and democracy, involving people from all walks of life. Rahman stressed the importance of remaining vigilant to prevent any political manipulation of the uprising and called for efforts to provide compensation and medical care to the victims.

Rahman underscored the crucial nature of the upcoming national election for establishing a democratic Bangladesh, aligning it with the July warriors’ vision of a self-reliant nation. He expressed his emotional connection with the families of the martyrs and injured, describing the event as a poignant reminder of their sacrifices.

The meeting was presided over by BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan, and conducted by Assistant Office Secretary Abdus Sattar Patwari. It was attended by several BNP leaders, including Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Amra BNP Poribar Convener Atiqur Rahman Ruman,
along with the families of the July Uprising martyrs and injured.
