Dhaka: Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to sustainable river governance and flood control in the Jamuna River. ‘The Jamuna is one of the main rivers of Bangladesh which is playing an important role in the geography of Bangladesh. A comprehensive plan must be taken for sustainable river governance and flood control in the Jamuna River management,’ she stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana made these remarks as the chief guest at the ‘NODI Project Concluding Seminar on Pathways to Sustainable Management of the Jamuna River’ held at Pani Bhaban. Rizwana, who also serves as the adviser for environment, forest, and climate change, highlighted the importance of maintaining the river’s shape, characteristics, and biodiversity. She underscored the need for initiatives to ensure adequate water resources for Boro cultivation and to address salinity issues.
The adviser acknowledged Japan’s longstanding support and contribution to Bangladesh’s economic and infrastructural development since its independence. She expressed gratitude towards Japan and its people and hoped for continued collaboration.
The seminar was chaired by Director General of Bangladesh Water Development Board Md Enayet Ullah. It was attended by Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Khondaker Azim Ahmed, and Additional Secretary of the Planning Commission Md Enamul Haque, among others.
