Dhaka: BNP acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Monday accused several cultural figures, including Rokeya Prachy and Meher Afroz Shaon, of praising deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and becoming involved in conspiracies. Rizvi made these remarks during the unveiling of a new song by singer-songwriter Ethun Babu about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. According to United News of Bangladesh, Rizvi criticized the notion that being an artiste equates to being a humanist, suggesting that cultural personalities do not necessarily have open minds or humanist qualities. He emphasized that a true cultural figure should embody the qualities of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, highlighting humanity as a core trait of a genuine artiste. Rizvi asserted that cultural activists have historically played pivotal roles in movements for independence, democracy, and revolutions. He stressed the importance of an organized cultural force as an essential component of any successful mo vement. Drawing parallels to history, he noted that fascist regimes also had cultural supporters, citing examples from Nazi Germany and Mussolini's Italy. He further alleged that not all artistes or prominent cultural figures become humanists, accusing some of failing to acknowledge the sacrifices of individuals during the July uprising. Rizvi mentioned the sacrifices of Ahnab, Mugdha, and Abu Sayed, criticizing those who did not recognize their contributions. Rizvi lamented the closed-mindedness of certain individuals who support what he termed a 'terrible fascist,' despite being citizens of the same nation. He advised the public to focus on personal growth rather than solely aspiring to reach particular positions or become someone else. Rizvi encouraged people to strive for progress from their current standing, believing it leads to greater success.
