Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has stated that restoring people’s confidence in police and improving law and order is the government’s priority. The Prime Minister conveyed this message during the National Police Week-2026, a four-day program set to commence tomorrow.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of a professional and responsible police force in maintaining the country’s stability and public trust. He remarked that the police week serves as an opportune moment to reinforce the commitment of the police to being a dependable force.

Tarique Rahman highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to build a prosperous, self-reliant, and justice-based democratic country. He noted that achieving these goals would be challenging without ensuring public safety and relaxation. The police play a crucial role as a law enforcement agency, and their professionalism and sincerity have been evident during national crises.

The Prime Minister pointed out the effective role of the police in the last general election, demonstrating their capability to work efficiently in a supportive environment. He also acknowledged their international achievements, particularly in UN peacekeeping missions, which have elevated Bangladesh’s reputation globally.

Rahman noted that a democratic government has been established through a free and fair election after many years, bringing peace and relief to public life. He stressed the public’s desire for a country free from the culture of disappearance, abduction, and fear, urging the police to maintain a peaceful society.

The Prime Minister called on the police to take a more active role in curbing mob violence, teenage gangs, and drug-related issues, deeming it essential for the state’s stability and the country’s democratic progress. He extended greetings to all former and current members of the police force and wished success for the police week.
