Dhaka: A court here today set May 25 for submitting a report on the execution of the arrest warrants issued against 82 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, in five cases filed over irregularities in allocating plots in the RAJUK Purbachal New Town Project. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order as police failed to submit the report today, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) public prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir told BSS.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the same court on April 15 issued arrest warrants against 29 people in two separate cases filed by the ACC regarding a scam in allocating plots in the RAJUK Purbachal New Town Project. ACC Deputy Director Md Salahuddin filed one case against eight individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, on January 14 for abusing power in allocating a 10-katha plot in the Purbachal New Town Project. Investigation officer and ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya filed the charge sheet against a total of 12 individuals on March 10.

Apart from Sheikh Hasina, the other 11 accused in the case include Ministry of Housing and Public Works senior assistant secretary Purobi Goldar, administrative officer Md Saiful Islam Sarkar, former Rajuk chairman’s personal assistant Md Anisur Rahman Miah, former Rajuk members Shafi Ul Haque, Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Major (retd) Samsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Deputy Director Nayeb Ali Sharif, Secretaries Qazi Wasi Uddin and Shahid Ullah Khandaker, and former state minister Sharif Ahmed.

The charge-sheet mentioned that Sheikh Hasina did not file any application in the designated form of the RAJUK. Her application was not considered eligible by the RAJUK review committee, and it was not included in the designated registrar book of the applicants. Despite owning a house or flat in the area, she allegedly violated the laws and rules regarding the allocation of plots and took the allocation of a 10-katha plot, registering it under her name and keeping it under her possession.

Meanwhile, ACC Assistant Director SM Rashedul Hasan filed another case against 15 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy. He filed the charge sheet against 17 individuals on March 10. The list of accused includes several government officials and former Rajuk members.

In a related development, Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib issued warrants on April 13, 2025, to arrest 53 people, including Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, nieces Tulip Siddiq and Azmina Siddiq, and nephew Radwan Mujib Siddiq, in connection with the RAJUK plot allocation scam. The ACC had filed cases against these individuals on charges of abusing power to obtain plots from RAJUK, with charge sheets subsequently filed against more people.

The legal proceedings have drawn significant attention, as they involve prominent figures and allegations of abuse of power in the allocation of valuable real estate plots in the RAJUK Purbachal New Town Project.
