Dhaka: Expatriate Bangladeshis sent US$2.56 billion in remittances in October, marking an increase of approximately 7 percent compared to the same month in the previous year. This growth underscores a positive trend in the financial contributions of Bangladeshis working abroad.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, industry insiders have pointed out that the country has been experiencing a rise in remittance inflows since December of last year. This increase is attributed to several factors, including a narrowing gap between official and informal exchange rates, efforts to curb money laundering, and a renewed sense of patriotism among expatriates following last year's political changes.
In October 2024, wage earners sent $2.39 billion in remittances to Bangladesh. The persistent growth trend suggests that the measures taken to enhance the remittance process and the dedication of expatriates are yielding tangible results for the nation's economy.
